He also owned the private “Medispring Children Hospital” in Gorakhpur’s Azad Chowk. During his time at the medical college, on August 10, 2017, 60 children died because there wasn’t enough oxygen. This was a terrible event that he will never forget.

Reports from the media say that Khan set up the oxygen tanks on his own and was a hero in the situation. But on August 13, 2017, the Uttar Pradesh government denied all of the claims that oxygen was cut off in the hospital because the bills hadn’t been paid. The government also said that it was his job to do it, but he wasn’t there because he was working at a private clinic. After the DG of Health, KK Gupta, made a complaint, they fired him from his job as the nodal officer in charge of the encephalitis ward and filed a FIR against him and other on-duty officers.

He was arrested on September 2, and the court has said that he can’t get out of jail on bail. After he was arrested, the doctor said that he told all the higher-ups that the medical college didn’t have enough oxygen cylinders. He also said that he begged the local oxygen suppliers and told them to get oxygen cylinders from nearby hospitals right away, but no one listened in time. After that, he went outside to get the oxygen tanks and told the DIG of police to get a truck and people to deliver the oxygen tanks.

He also said that the police had bothered his family and that the chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, was mad at him. In 2018, the Indian Medical Association released a statement in Khan’s defence, and around 200 doctors and other activists wrote a letter to the Chief Minister in Khan’s support and to demand justice for him. After that, the situation was looked into, and it was decided that the doctor wasn’t to blame. On April 25, 2018, he was let out of jail because there was no proof against him.

After he got out of jail, his brother was attacked by some strangers, but by the grace of God, he made it through the attack. Khan said after the event that this was done by Kamlesh Paswan, an MP for the Bharatiya Janta Party, and his men. Later, he also said that he had gone bankrupt because people were afraid of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s anger and didn’t help him and his brother with their businesses.

After this, he was also arrested in December 2019 for his speech against the CAA. An FIR was filed against him at the civil lines police station. He was then taken to Aligarh and then moved to Mathura’s jail. Officials from the police said that they did this to be safe in case there was a protest on the AMU campus. In 2009, he was also arrested because he was charged with rape.
